Tombstone as it appeared for the 2018 season of BattleBots. The blue blade used in Season 2 was actually the same red blade used in its previous season, just repainted. A new S7 red blade with edges cut at a 45 degrees had been brought to the tournament, the design of which is stated by Ray Billings on the team's website to chip faster than as liked (as what happened against Black Ice after the blade hit the arena wall too many times) but cuts into opponents better. Returning for Season 2, Tombstone had rubber shock insulators added to the tire mounts to help prevent it from being loosened after being slammed into an opposing Bots' wedge from weapon collisions. Tombstone as it appeared for the 2016 season of BattleBots. It also had a top armor plate "cushion" added to absorb hammer attacks (labelled "Beta Blocker" after its intended target) but it did not get a chance to use it. Tombstone had at least three blades for the 2015 competition: the large silver one it used against its first two opponents, a black blade it used against its third opponent (originally used on the superheavyweight version) and the red blade it used against its last two opponents. Tombstone's builder Ray Billings built a new version of Tombstone for the 2015 reboot of BattleBots on ABC where it finished as runner-up and earned the giant bolt for most destructive robot. Tombstone as it appeared for the 2015 season of BattleBots. Last Rites' design was inspired by M.O.E.'s but with Ray Billings wondering what it be like with just two wheels instead of four.
Last Rites to this day remains one of the most vicious robots on the robotic combat circuit and holds a spot in the Combat Robot Hall of Fame. Its name was taken from the team's retired superheavyweight version. The second Tombstone was basically a new version of the team's flagship heavyweight, Last Rites, as Ray did not want to contractually tie up Last Rites to compete in BattleBots, so he built a new Last Rites specifically for BattleBots. Only two of the only parts from the 2004 design survived in 2015 from this model of Tombstone, which was the 250 lbs version of Tombstone's black blade. Its offence is also its defence, as it took up the front of the robot so it was hard to get to the sides. Tombstone has always been a two-wheeled box-shaped robot armed with a large horizontally-spinning bar that weighs about 65-75 lbs.

Tombstone constantly performed solidly in competition. There are at least three different kinds of the blade, which are coloured differently and are varying in weight. It has several different kinds of the blade to use depending on the opponent it faces. Tombstone is widely renowned for the amount of destruction dealt to opposition by its now-trademark blade, making it a constant fan favorite. Last Rites' (and with it also Tombstone's) design was allegedly inspired by M.O.E. This was because of the name exclusivity contract between BattleBots and the competing robots which would render the team's leader Ray Billings unable to use the name "Last Rites" in RoboGames anymore. The current Tombstone is basically a near-copy of the team's flagship heavyweight Last Rites which competes on RoboGames. The name comes from computer networking's term "tombstoning" meaning to kill it and have it stay dead. Its name was earlier used by a superheavyweight built by the same team which competed between 20.
